Ya que el ultimo iFriday que hice lo termine muy tarde en la semana, decidi ilustrar la palabra de este viernes. Use esta ilustracion para probar entintar y colorear usando flash, de hecho si miran el resto del blog se daran cuenta que siempre estoy dispuesto a probar metodos nuevos para las ilustraciones. Espero qe les guste.

Since i did last iFriday so late on the week I decided to illustrate this week's word. I was also trying out inking and coloring with flash, if you take a look at the rest of the blog you'll notice i'm always trying out new methods and stuff. Hope you like it!

IF - Rescue / Rescate

Siempre me gusto la nocion de los San Bernardos cargando brandy en un barril en su cuello y salvando a victimas de avalanchas. Siendo de un pais tropical (de hecho nunca he visto la nieve) la idea me parecia maravillosa. (no que quisiera tomarme un trag de brandy a los 6 años, creo...)

I always liked that notion of the St. Bernard carrying brandy on their necks and saving avalanche victims. Being from a country that has no snow (actually i've never even seen snow) the whole thing seemed wonderful to me. (not that I wanted to have a shot of brandy at six, i think...)


Y Claro, los San Bernardos mas graciosos siempre fueron los de las vieas caricaturas de MGM. Hice un poco de investigacion para mostrarles pero lo unico que encontre era una caricatura de Bugs Bunny/Yosemite Sam que se llamaba Picker's Peak, donde un San Bernardo amarillo llega a salvar a Sam, prepara un martini pero termina tomandoselo el mismo.

Of course the St. Bernards on old MGM cartoons where the funniest, i did some research for this one and the only one I could remember was the Bugs Bunny/Yosemite Sam cartoon called Picker's Peak, where a yellow St. Bernard prepares a martini and drinks it himself instead of giving it to Sam.



Por cierto, no tengo un scanner en este momento, pero como tenia tanto tiempo de no hace un ifriday decidi simplemente tomarle una foto, espero que no les importe.

By the way, i don't have a scanner at the moment but i havent done an ifriday in so long that just took a picture of it, hope you don't mind.

Serigrafias / Silkscreens

El ultimo par de semanas estuve trabajando en 3 ilustraciones de formato grande para serigrafia (esto es solo un adelanto para mostrarles, los colores no son definitivos, pero estoy seguro que los reales se van a ver aun mejor).
Va a ser una edicion limitada de posters y los voy a vender a un precio muy comodo. Aun estoy decidiendo que servicio de online store voy a usar (de hecho si tienen alguna recomendacion seria muy bien recibida).
Tambien mi buen amigo y distinguido artista de tatuajes Taco de 506 Tatto esta organizando una pequeña exposicion para mostrar sus cuadros y me invito a acompañarlo, yo voy a andar por ahi mostrando estos 3 trabajos y tomando cerveza al fondo.

On the last couple of weeks i've been working on 3 big format illustrations to be silkscreened (these is just a quick snapshot to show you, the colors are not definite, but i'm sure the real ones will look even better.
There'll be a limited print series of each one at a super cheap price. I'm still figuring out which online store service to use (if you have any recommendation it'd be really appreciated).
Also my good friend and distinguished tattoo artist Taco of 506 Tattoo is organizing a little show to display some of his paintings and invited me to join him, I'll be displaying these 3 pieces and drinking beer in the back.

Muerte de una caricatura

Otra ilustracion en tinta y lapiz de color de uno de los personajes de mi cuaderno de bocetos. Tenia esta idea desde hace un par de semanas que estuve viendo caricaturas.
De hecho recuerdo que de niño me sentia mal cuando algun personaje se moria y se "iba al cielo", aun si fuera de una forma tan ridicula como esta.
Tambien me parece muy interesante como este tipo de chiste se convirtio en casi un lenguaje para todos los que crecimos viendo caricaturas.

La inspiracion de esta caricatura viene directamente del extraño sentido del humor de Bob Clampett, uno de mis directores favoritos. No se si el habra inventado el chiste pero es muy probable que si.


Another illo done with ink and coloring pencils, on one of the characters taken from my sketchbook. this idea's been on my mind for a couple of weeks now.
In fact, i distinctly recall feeling very bad when a cartoon character died and "went to heaven". Even if it was in such a ridiculous way.
I think its interesting how this type of visual gag has become almost a language for all of us that grew up watching cartoons.

This particular one was inspired by Bob Clampett's twisted humor, although im not 100% sure if he invented it.

Ilustracion de fin de semana

Este fin de semana estuve practicando ilustracion en un libro de bocetos, tratando de ejercitarme un poco en rapidez y haciendo varios personajes que se me vinieran a la mente en el momento. Al terminar decidi redibujar los que mas me gustaron en un amaño mas grande. Tenia por ahi un block de hojas bristol que me habia salido bastante caro y nunca habia usado realmente, entonces aproveche.


I was practicing this weekend on my sketchbook, exercising on getting ideas quicker and just drawing whatever came to mind. When i finished i decided to re-draw a couple of my favorite ones on a bigger size. I had a block of Bristol paper sheets lying around (which by the way was very expensive and never really used)

Normalmente no me gusta usar lapices de color, prefiero los colores solidos de la pintura acrilica pero en este caso, quede bastante contento con el resultado

I normally don't like using colored pencils, i prefer the solid colors you get using acrylics, but I'm pretty satisfied with how it worked out.

Otra idea que se me ocurrio, he tomado esto de diseñar camisetas para practicar y mejorar. Ahi poco a poco voy avanzando creo.

El Zorro Vago / Lazy Fox Threadless

Hola, se me ocurrio una camiseta y la envie a threadless para participar. El concurso se llama "trends for 2010" y yo estoy proponiendo que vuelva la moda de vestir un zorro. (solo que dormido)
Si pueden voten por mi diseño para ver si me echo una plata extra.

Gente cool que veo en la calle

Este es un señor que suelo ver todos los dias desde hace mas o menos 5 años cuando voy al trabajo.
Ademas de ejercitarse a diario y tener una rutina de ejercicios inventada por el, este señor suele recoger toda la basura que ve en el parque (y se ejercita frente al lago y hasta se para de cabeza).

Halloween 2009

Este año decidimos organizar una fiesta de halloween para tener algo interesante y divertido que hacer, asi que aqui esta el afiche, ojala les guste.
